Serial premiered in October of 2014 and should be seen as a benchmark for the true crime podcast universe. It remains a top show in terms of quality and quantity of listeners. Even celebrities like Kim Kardashian have announced their obsession with crime and criminals. “My dream job would definitely be like a forensic investigator,” she told Billboard in 2016. Given her lobbying for issues as far ranging as quality of life in prisons to those wrongly or too harshly imprisoned for offenses, this should not come as too much of a surprise. Another celeb who hangs on every detail of the true crime realm is Lucy Hale. The Pretty Little Liars actress said that she treasures “anything true-crime related.”

Funny lady Mindy Kaling shares Hale’s passion for the admittedly evil and hauntingly real. “I love true crime. I think a lot of writers are into the specificity of the details of grisly crimes,” she told Rolling Stone. “It’s so different from the world I know, which is a very comfortable, safe writer’s room.”
